CREDIT CARDS AND CASH REQUIREMENTS

Credit Card Guarantee


At certain times of the year in order to reserve a car with Alamo, it is necessary to provide a credit card guarantee. Certain car types, such as minivans require a credit card guarantee year round. If your reservation required a credit card in order to book please be sure to cancel at least 24 hours in advance in order to avoid any cancellation fees and/or penalties.

 

Credit Cards


At the time of rental, the renter must present the actual credit card used for each online transaction, with available credit, in their own name, and the signature on the back must match the name imprinted on the card. In addition, the number printed on the card presented by renter must match the number stored for the online transaction.

Virtual Credit Cards
AVIS does not accept online-only, virtual credit cards or any other type of "single-use" card number security product or one-time use credit card number that may be provided by credit card companies for online use.

AVIS shall not assume responsibility or liability in connection with the use of on-line only, virtual credit cards or any other type of "single-use" card number security product or one-time use credit card number that may be provided by credit card companies for online transactions. AVIS shall have no obligation to honor transactions made with such cards.

Gift/Prepaid Cards


A Gift/Prepaid Card is considered to be a gift certificate bearing the Visa, MasterCard or American Express logo.

AVIS only accepts gift cards for final payment upon return of the rental vehicle. Gift cards are not acceptable as a form of cash deposit.

Gift Cards are not accepted in Latin America or the Caribbean.

 

Debit Cards


When renting in the U.S., debit and check cards may only be used in conjunction with proof of a round trip travel ticket (airline, cruise ship or train) OR A RESIDENT MUST BRING A UTILITY BILL IN THEIR OWN NAME at time of rental.

A debit/check card is considered to be any non-credit card bearing the VISA, MasterCard or Discover Card logo.

Any other non-credit card without the VISA, MasterCard or Discover Card logo is not accepted.

For pick-ups in the United States, without proof of roundtrip ticket, debit or check cards are only accepted when returning the vehicle.

A credit card in the name of the renter must be presented at the time of pick-up..

What is the Card Identification Number?

The Card Identification Number (CID) is an added security feature to help protect you against online fraud. It is a 3- or 4-digit number that appears on your credit or debit card, next to your regular card number. Because the Card Identification Number is non-embossed and therefore not printed on receipts, it helps ensure that someone cannot use your credit card information without having the card in hand.

Customers must meet AVIS's requirements for renting a vehicle without a credit card.

Only Economy through full-size vehicles can be rented with cash.

No Additional Drivers are allowed on Cash Rentals.

Cash rentals, excluding International tour and Domestic tour rentals, will require a $(determined by corporate) deposit per rental in addition to the calculated rental charges.

 

When the rental vehicle is returned in accordance with the rental terms and conditions, the cash deposit will be refunded upon return of the vehicle, and in some instances, the refund will be mailed to the customer following the return of the rental vehicle.
